Open Mic Night
Here Is What We Do For You!
Performers at the Open Mic Night Thursdays at Money Plays in Las Vegas:
-
Perform on a great sound system run by an experienced audio engineer.
-
Get recorded for free!
-
Get these recordings mixed and mastered in a studio for free!
-
Have these recordings hosted on VegasOnTheMic.com and given to you free!
-
Earn Video Tokens to get HD video (with professional audio) of a performance for free!
There is no charge ever for any of this. This is all to create a new weekly Las Vegas scene!

Here’s What You Can Do For Us!
All we ask of performers is that you:
-
Bring people to hang out with you from 9pm to midnight! (Because no one likes performing to an empty bar!)
-
To get a spot on the list and play one song, all you have to do is show up and sign up at 8pm.
-
But if you bring just 1 person (non-performers only), you get to play 2 songs!
-
And if you bring 2 non-performers, you get to play 3 songs!
-
And if you bring 3, you get a Video Token. The last Thursday of every month we shoot HD video at the open mic. It will be just like any other open mic night of ours, but performers with Video Tokens will also be captured in HD video which will then be edited with their professional audio! You will own the original of the video and can do whatever you like with it! 1 Video Token = 1 performance piece. (If you have 3 tokens by the last Thursday of the month, you still have to bring at least 2 guests on this last Thursday if you’d like to use all the tokens then and get video of all 3 songs.) Video Tokens cannot be used the same night they are earned.
-
If you bring over 3 non-performers, you win at life and you get everything above + I’ll buy you a beer.
-
Non-music performers can replace “songs” above with 4-minute “pieces.”
-
Keep songs/pieces under 4 minutes each! This includes whatever intro things you want to say! You can do material over 4 minutes, but it will count as 2 songs/pieces.
-
You and your guests should stick around for the other performers! Hang out from 9pm until midnight (again, no one likes playing to an empty bar!) to get your free recordings.
About Signing Up
Sign up begins at 8pm the night of the open mic. It is first come first serve to get on the list!
The list is closed when it is full. It fills ups very quickly some nights! As our open mic becomes more popular it will fill up earlier and earlier. You can follow my facebook posts the night of or text me at 517-410-8248 to see how the list is doing.
The first act goes on at 9pm.
Performers’ names are shuffled up and drawn for the order in which they take the stage. If your name is on the list you are guaranteed to go on, though when you go on is totally random… sometime between 9pm and midnight.

The Last Little Bit of Info
-
Original material is encouraged, covers are discouraged. We want to hear what you have to say!
-
Freestyles are discouraged. Put something together beforehand and show us your best!
-
You have 4 inputs (microphones, XLR, or 1/4-inch direct) for whatever you want. Everything except for drums played with sticks is allowed. There is also a music stand, studio microphones, 2 pop screens, and 4 sets of studio headphones at your disposal. Acoustic acts, comedians, hip hop artists, and spoken word performers are all welcome! (If you’d like to perform to a track, I recommend bringing an audio CD of your tracks that is playable in any CD player to avoid problems with the file format.) You provide all instruments, tracks, etc. I provide the sound and recording.
-
No more than 4 performers per act. We’re going for “intimate vibe” not “10-man jam session.”
-
Also, no performers can go up more than once a night. I’m not trying to discourage collaboration, just discouraging gaming the system. If you’re a part of multiple projects, bring people out and you can have more stage time to split between you and your collaborating partners when its your one turn to take the stage.
-
21 and up only please! Money Plays is a bar and they will card.
-
No beer or cigarettes on stage or near the equipment.
-
The sign up sheet also serves to give Mike permission to record your performance and host it on VegasOnTheMic.com. Here’s a copy of it. It will be available for you when you sign up.
-
It is ultimately up to VegasOnTheMic’s discretion who gets to perform or gets the free materials. We reserve all rights to refuse service to anyone who is inconsiderate of others or careless with the equipment.
-
If you break any rules, you may not be allowed to perform or get your free stuff!
-
If you show up after the list is closed, you can still perform for us after midnight, but I won’t record the latecomers.
